Our experience in health campus redevelopment enables us to add significant value to projects involving staged delivery, live operational constraints and long-term precinct planning, delivering world-class outcomes that balance clinical performance with patient and staff wellbeing.
Our team brings specialist expertise in health precinct master planning and urban design, with practical experience across greenfield and brownfield sites, including major health campus masterplans for Wimmera Base Hospital, Kyneton District Health Service, Kilmore Hospital, the McKellar Centre in Geelong, Kingston Centre and Primary Health Care Facilities across the Torres Strait. Our work integrates new clinical infrastructure with existing assets while maintaining uninterrupted day-to-day operations.
Our master planning approach addresses the strategic rationalisation and optimisation of existing facilities, the strategic use of prime real estate, traffic and pedestrian movement, car parking and access, seamless integration with site character and long-term sustainable development opportunities. This ensures health precincts are planned holistically, responding to operational needs, future growth and urban context.
Key health sector projects include the Wimmera Base Hospital Redevelopment Masterplan, commissioned by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, delivering a $450 million masterplan to replace and replan all facilities while maintaining full live operations; the Kyneton District Health Service Redevelopment Masterplan, delivering new operating theatres, CSSD, medical imaging, ambulance station, community health services, ambulatory care, primary care and mental health facilities alongside major civil and landscape works; and the Torres Strait Primary Health Care Centre Redevelopment Project, currently being delivered in collaboration with Queensland Health and the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service to provide culturally responsive facilities for Indigenous communities on Moa Island.
Across all health projects, Charles Wright Architects applies a strategic planning framework that integrates functional design, operational and recurrent cost efficiency, and long-term expandability. This approach ensures healthcare facilities are robust, adaptable and aligned with both current service delivery requirements and future clinical models of care, supporting cost-effective delivery of health services and long-term asset performance.
